2019 4-H/FFA Market Livestock Sale
For the last several months, 4-H and FFA students from across the Flathead Valley have been raising lambs, hogs, and beef in preparation for this year's 4-H & FFA Market Livestock Sale.
On Monday, every student participated in a weigh-in, where we recorded each animal's weight and they had an ultrasound to determine their fat to muscle ratio. Then, on Tuesday, students with lambs and beef participated in showmanship and market judging classes, where this year's Grand Champion and Reserve Champion animals were awarded. Hog judging took place all day Wednesday.
Please join us this Saturday for the pinnacle of this year's 4-H and FFA events, the Market Livestock Sale. There's a free buyer's breakfast starting at 7:00am where you can learn about the animals, the process students go through to raise this top quality meat, and details of how the sale works.
Starting at 8:00am, 169 hogs will be auctioned off, followed by 57 lambs, and 42 steers.
Once you purchase an animal you have three options: 1) keep the meat for yourself, family, friends, or employees, 2) donate the meat to a local nonprofit of your choice 3) sell the animal back to have the resale value donated to a charity of your choice or keep the resale money.
100% of the sale price of each animal is given directly to the student that raised it. Many of the students use the money to purchase an animal for a project next year, start a savings account, and even help pay for college.
For more information about the sale or how to be a buyer, please join us at the buyer's breakfast or call our office at (406) 758-2806.
The 4-H & FFA Market Livestock Sale is organized every year in partnership between the 4-H Extension Office, Kalispell FFA, the Northwest Montana Fair, and the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce.
